photo memories

Writing Prompt: Cleaning your room you find an old photograph. Pleasant memories awake.   Do you ever get that feeling of needing to organize and clean a space in a room or a room in your home? Well that’s the feeling I got recently with my bedroom.   In my bedroom I have two bookshelves, my dresser, a nightstand and under my bed I have two boxes. Between my bookshelves, nightstand and the two boxes under my bed that’s a lot to organize and go through.    I decided to start with my smaller bookshelf that has several magazine holders on it with folders of somewhat useless stuff. As I was going through the folders I came upon some old photographs of my childhood days which brought some good memories.   The first photo I came across was of me on a horse. Growing up I tried a lot of different activities. Baseball, Karate, Swimming, Field Hockey Even Horse Riding lessons. The Horse Riding lessons lasted the longest. I wasn’t too bad at it. I could walk, trot, canter and I even did s

people watching

Writing Prompt: Everyday for about an hour you observe people in the park. What did you see today?     People watching is something you can do in a mall, coffee shop, or even in a park. This has been one of my favorite activities this past summer in a park. I would regulate the same park almost everyday. First I would grab a tea or smoothie and then head off to the park with a notebook for writing and a book for reading.    As I sat on the bench I watched people out walking with kids and or pets. Some were biking, rollerblading and running. The bikers made me want to go get my bike and ride. Rollerblader made me remember how when I was a kid I would rollerblade around a school as my parents played tennis. Joggers remind me of how my feet hurt sometimes, that's why I stick to biking and the gym.     Looking over to the grass I notice some people are lying on towels by themselves reading and tanning, others are in a group sitting and chatting, listening to music. The families are si

Missing my stop

Writing Prompt: You miss your destination by several stops, when you fall asleep on a train.   I often see an occasional person on the train sleeping and will wonder what happens when they miss their stop?    That happened to me recently after a long day at work. It was a busy Christmas Eve and I was exhausted. As I got onto the train I decided to rest my head against the window just for a bit. Before I knew it I was asleep and completely missed my stop.     When I woke up I panicked and felt unsettled not knowing exactly where I was. It took a few minutes for me to get my bearings before I realized that I had fallen asleep and missed my stop. I quickly got off at the next stop which was metrotown so that I could switch trains and head back to hopefully not fall asleep again on my way to lougheed station. I decided to go to the nearest Tim Hortons before getting back on the train and getting myself a large cup of coffee to keep me awake this time around.

My Cat Briar A few months  into  2015 my Mom  and I went  to the local  animal shelter.   I was feeling nervous and a little scared,  not quite sure how ready  I actually was to have a pet of my own.  I would  have to  look  after  this pet on my own and it would rely on me that would  be a big thing.   We looked  at a few cats and eventually decided  on White female cat with  green eyes named Briar.   The first  few weeks with Briar took  some  adjusting for both of us. Getting  to know  each other,  bond, play, feeding and cleaning.  I would  put music on  whenever  I went out so that she could feel comfortable.  She would  hide  most  of the  time.    Over  the  years  Briar has grown more open and confident with me. She is still shy and scared and will hide when someone else comes over. She is alright with just my mom coming over.  Some favorite activities Briar enjoys aside from the usual eating and sleeping are playing fetch with

writing prompts #8 & 9

Writing prompts #8 You see a bright light coming from your room at night. As I arrived home from the movies I noticed a light from my room. I thought it was odd because I was pretty sure that I turned off all the lights in my room.   When I got to my room no one was there.   What happened? How did the lights go on? Did I accidentally leave it on or did someone in my family go in to look for something or put something away and forgot to turn the lights back off? As I put my pajamas on and got into bed I found a note lying on the floor. I picked it up and read it. Hey sis, Hope you don't mind, I borrowed your blue frilly dress by Calvin Klein for a date tonight. Hope the movie was good! See you tomorrow. Love you! So that's how the lights were left on! #9 There's a lot of people laughing around your cubicle, but you don't know why. Not sure what happened, I must have been super caught up in my work which is pretty boring when you are an insurance agent.  I j

I was excited when I saw the letter. I carefully ripped it open. As I started reading it I noticed that it was dated 1914. I was curious and felt it was odd. Why was it dated 1914? Writing prompt #2: You are alone in a room but you don't remember how you got there.   Have you ever had one of those moments where your standing in a room asking yourself why you are there? And how you got there?   Well that's me right now standing in the kitchen trying to figure out how and why I came here?   Let's start backwards, what was I doing before? Was I trying to figure out my weekly meals? Feed the cat? Have I fed the cat yet? Figure out what groceries to buy?   How did I enter the kitchen? Did I come from the hallway or the dining room? I don't really care about how I got here but why did I come in here? I will check the cat food, nope all fed! Which means that I must have been figuring out what to make for my weekly meals in the dining room and came in here to check what I need for groceries. I am thinking of making quinoa, broccoli and ground beef sounds good!
